On Tuesday evening The Brewers host their first ever Evo-Stik Division One North fixture as they welcome Ossett Albion to the i2i stadium.
Ossett kicked off the season on Saturday with a respectable 2-2 draw at home against Clitheroe. Albion went 2-0 down to the Lancashire based side that are quietly fancied by many but they dug deep and showed great character to salvage a point after goals from Ben Walker and Connor Brunt.
Last season the Unicorns finished in a decent 10th place, comfortably in mid-table and they will be looking to replicate that showing once again this year.
Taddy began their debut season at Step 4 level with a 2-0 defeat at recently relegated Hyde United. An early ripper from range by Phil Dean gave The Brewers a warm welcome to the Evo-Stik.
Tad did have a series of good chances to draw level in the first half with Jason Mycoe firing off target, Conor Sellars bending just wide and Tom Corner only managing to find Forth in the Hyde goal from point blank range.
However, Chris Amadi, who was recently plying his trade at FC United of Manchester, doubled The Tigers’ lead four minutes into the second half towering a header in off the underside of the bar at the back post.
Taddy rallied again and created their best chance of the match with twenty minutes to go. Jason Mycoe slicing Hyde’s defence apart with a perfect through ball to the advancing Rob Youhill who tried to take it round Forth but the stopper did well to halt the attack.
If that goes in, 2-1 with 20 minutes to go, it could have all changed.
Nevertheless it was always going to be difficult against a team that was playing Conference football not long ago.
Brewers boss Billy Miller will be looking to give the Taddy faithful a rousing performance against our Yorkshire neighbours and get off the mark for the season.
Team News: Adam Baker will return to the squad but Jono Greening and Dan Thirkell are both still absent.
Miller may make one or two alterations to Saturday’s side to keep the squad as fresh as possible, especially with the mouth-watering FA Cup clash with rivals Scarborough Athletic coming up on Saturday.
Hope to see many of you down tomorrow night, we need to make the i2i stadium a fortress.
