Battling Taddy Hold Onto a Point

The Brewers made three changes to the starting eleven with returns for Charlie Jebson-King, Tom Classie and Rob Guilfoyle.

Dunston made a strong start to the game and within the first two minutes had two efforts wide of the target. Richard Coulson was first to shoot from the edge of the box, then William Jenkins drove forward unopposed before curling his effort over the angle.

In the 15th minute Dunston broke the deadlock; Coulson chipped in a cross for the run of Carl Finnigan who glanced his header into the far post, 0-1.

Buoyed by the opening goal the visitors went in search of their second but Max Culverwell was on hand at full stretch to push Michael Fowler’s header wide.

In the 22nd minute Tadcaster had their first chance of the afternoon; Nathan Croft and Scott Smith’s worked a short corner but James Beaston headed wide.

Late in the first half Tad created another opportunity - Dan Hartley’s downward header found striker Luke Hinsley, who fired goalward on the turn but a deflection took it over the bar.
From the resulting corner in the 43rd minute, Croft delivered into the box for Hinsley to power his header home levelling the game, 1-1.

Early into the second half Tadcaster almost took the lead. Captain Nathan Valentine’s effort was saved by Daniel Staples but the ball dropped kindly for the midfielder who could not quite get a hold of his shot but still forced the keeper to scramble to save.

Having grown into the game and become more of a threat going forward, the hosts had another opening in the 53rd minute; Hinsley won the ball on the wing before driving goalward, but from an acute angle, shot over.

Three minutes later Smith pulled a shot wide of the target from the edge of the box after Guilfoyle picked him out from his cross.

In the 76th and 84th minute respectively Liam Thear had two sizeable opportunities both of which he squandered shooting over as each side battled for the upper hand.

In the 87th minute the Brewers forced consecutive corners. The first from Croft found Hartley who could not catch his shot cleanly, before his second was picked up by Valentine who was denied by the face of a Dunston defender from a thunderbolt across the area

The final chance of the game came in the 90th minute from a visitor’s free kick, but Jenkins, having beaten the wall, found Culverwell equal to it tipping the ball around the post.

A draw for Tadcaster ends a run of five losses in the league but their determination against team who were almost in the play off zone was far more than just a point - it was real a confidence booster and hopefully, at last, there is light at the end of the tunnel!

The players applauded the home supporters as they left the pitch and vice versa.

Next up for the Brewers is another home game at the So-Trak in a Yorkshire derby against Ossett United on Friday, 2nd December, kick off 7:45pm.
