On Friday Evening, The Brewers headed to Barton Town for their final away game of their 2024/25 NCEL league season. The Brewers were quick to get on the front foot with a corner in the 4th minute. The corner fell to Oli Norman who hit the volley over the bar. It was the home team who had the first real effort in the 12th minute when an attempt by Tait from distance with a dipping volley was saved by Taddy Keeper Sam Green at the second attempt.
In the 18th minute, Mason clipped a ball in behind to Oli Norman who drove into the penalty area where he went down under a tackle, but nothing was given by the referee. However, just one minute later, Greenway drove along the byline, his cross was cleared but only as far as Andrew Shepherd. He drove the ball at speed at the target, where it was deflected off Charlie Thompson into the Barton net for a deserved lead. 1-0 Brewers.
On 23 minutes, keeper Sam Green had to be quick off his line to deal with a through ball and got caught in the process. Lieles was doing fine work in defence as the home team looked to reply, and they nearly did so on 29 mins as an effort by Lovick just cleared the bar. The game was held up on the half hour as Taddy Keeper Sam Green needed some treatment. A few minutes later he was back in action saving again from Tait.
Just before half-time, Taddy defender Dean Lisles was booked as the home team pushed for an equaliser. Half-Time arrived with The Brewers still in the lead after Shepherd's goal from the corner.
It was the home team who started the second half strongly as in the 48th minute, Abrahams slid the ball just wide of the post as he drove into the box. Just 3 minutes later, Taddy were forced into their first substitution of the evening as Charlesworth replaced the injured Lisles. Barton drew level on 55 minutes as they pushed on hard as Fraser Papprill scored with a strong header from a corner. 1-1.
The Brewers nearly hit back in the 65th minute after great work again from Ronnie Mcgrath in midfield as he played in Tominson whose cross from the left was deflected into the side netting by a defender. A corner was given and from it Captain Thirkell went close as his header was punched clear by the Barton keeper. A few minutes later, Oli Norman was replaced by Middleton-Tozer.
The home team were to have the next chance as a header went just over the bar. The Brewers then had to make another substitution as goalscorer Shepherd was replaced by Ibrahimi.
6 minutes from the end of the game, substitute Middleton-Tozer went close as he curled the ball just over the bar from the edge of the penalty area. Shortly after that, Tomlinson was replaced by Davy. The referee then said there would be 4 minutes of added time and the first chance fell for the substitute Davy who chose not to shoot. There was just time for Mason to have a shot on goal and for Thompson to be replaced by Georgiou.
The final whistle went and The Brewers had a good point on the road. This meant that they ended their away NCEL campaign with 10 points from 19 games played. The Result left The Brewers in 17th place in the NCEL table with 37 points from 36 games played. They conclude their season with home games to play over the next two Saturday afternoons against play off chasing Hallam and Beverley Town.
