The Brewers play their 3rd home game in 9 days on Saturday as they return to league action again Thackley .The two teams play the return game at Thackley in 2 weeks time.

The Dennyboys have had a fine start to the season and sit in 5th place in the table with 23 points from 13 games played. The Brewers have played one game more and are 7 points behind them, so a home win would make the table even tighter than it is at present. It is very tight at the top of the NCEL with 4 teams within a point of each other, with Thackley just 4 points back in 5th place. Ben Grech-Brooksbank is their leading scorer this season with 11 goals, 8 of those coming in the league.

In the games last season, The teams drew 2-2 at Tadcaster in November after The Brewers went down 2-0 away in the opening game of the season. They were to finish just outside the play offs in 7th place with 61 points, that being 8 points ahead of The Brewers. Thackley have played in the NCEL Premier in every season since 1982. Their best finish being 2nd place in 1993/94. In 1993, they had their record attendance with 1,500 attending a friendly against Leeds United.

The picture above is from the game between the sides in 2015-16. The Brewers won that game 4-0 with goals from Adam Baker 2, Josh Greening and Gregg Anderson in front of a crowd of 274 on what turned out to be a very wet afternoon. The away game also went The Brewers way 3-2 with goals from Josh Greening 2 and Jonathon Greening. This was the season where we ended up as NCEL Premier Champions.

So, another challenging game for The Brewers against a team going well, but they do go into the game on the back of a late 2-0 win at home to Goole AFC in the round of 32 of the West Riding Cup. I am sure the team will welcome as much support as possible in this one.

Best

Keith.
