A Formal Development Pathway for 16 Year Olds and a New Home for Our Under 23's Team

Tadcaster Albion Football Club and Askham-Bryan College are pleased and excited to announce a formal partnership to deliver a Football Development Pathway for students 16 years of age who are entering into the sixth form element of their secondary education.

The successful outcome of the course is equivalent to 3 A levels and provides sufficient UCAS points for students to enter university should that be their chosen route.

Tadcaster Albion will provide students with the opportunity to play U18 football and a team is already entered into this season’s FA Youth Cup. Students will also have the opportunity to be involved in the club and the first team coaching staff will be monitoring their progress.

Another important aspect of the partnership will be the Club’s new Under 23’s team who will be based and play their matches at the College.

Garry Plant, Tadcaster Chair
"The opportunity for students to become involved in the football club is our focus, building a football pathway, Under18 to Under 23’s and hopefully to the first team squad."

First Team Manager, Mick O'Connell is equally enthusiastic.
“I am delighted we have finalised the deal to link up with Askham-Bryan to create a much-needed development squad within the structure of the club and we will look to use this as a reserve to the first team. I feel this is a big step forward for the future of the club as we can now look to generate our own players through this system - It gives us a chance to mold them into our philosophy for the club. I am a firm believer in developing young players and it is something both I and my staff are passionate about.”

Ben Atkinson Curriculum Area Manager at the College added.
“We are thrilled to launch our partnership with Tadcaster Albion Football Club. This exciting opportunity will provide Askham-Bryan College students with a chance to study their Level 3 sports qualification whilst accessing a route into semi professional football. Our course at the college will enable learners to develop their knowledge and skills within sport whilst applying this practically at Tadcaster Albion, building key employment skills.
